Collection: -The shore-

Some time ago, I revisited the work of Jacques Henri Lartigue, Rivages. I was struck by the spontaneity, candor and lightness of these people who go to the beach or take a walk on the banks. Looking at some of his photos, it makes you wonder if there were any problems at the turn of the century.
I thought about my own relationship with the ocean, the beach.
Personally, I don't see this lightness, looking at my photos, like JH Lartigue, of my friends, spontaneous encounters, people who roam the sand and pebbles, other emerging feelings.
Our relationship with the seaside has changed.
Now, we no longer go to meet the ocean for the same reasons. We are more in introspection, time, relaxation ...
We have lost some of our naivety over the past century. We have also lost some ignorance ...
This naivety, this candor, this lost ignorance leaves room perhaps for more knowledge, more responsibilities ... And now, a certain heaviness emanates from the photos.
In this place, meeting the ocean, we can no longer move forward, we can walk on one side or the other, but inevitably we find ourselves faced with our choices, to reflect ...

Escape is impossible.

Films and cameras vary a lot (35mm, 6x6, 6x9) but the prints are always made on Ilford classic matt baryta paper. The prints are treated with selenium (Rollei V.2 1:20, 10min.) Simply to slightly accentuate the contrast while minimizing the change in tone. Full negative on 16x20 inch paper size.

End of production, 20 photographs, spring 2022.
